Austin airport ranks among absolute worst for holiday travel
If your holiday travel plans include flying the friendly skies, brace yourself. A new report details the 50 best and worst airports for holiday travel, and three of the worst are right here in Texas.
To determine the rankings, the folks at NerdWallet started with the 50 busiest airports and analyzed data on delays, flight cancellations, and places to eat. Austin-Bergstrom International Airport comes in at No. 40, with Dallas Love Field right behind at No. 41. And DFW Airport? Well, it's the very worst.
Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport has the highest percentage of canceled flights on the list, over 4 percent. In addition, 15 percent of flights are delayed 30 minutes or more, 7 percent are delayed an hour or more, and 2 percent are delayed two or more hours.
While Love Field fares better in the cancellation department (1.46 percent), travelers should expect similar delays. At ABIA, 12.6 percent of flights are delayed for 30 minutes or more, 6.1 percent for an hour or more, and 2.4 percent for two hours or more; 1.44 percent get canceled.
Good news for those flying out of San Antonio: You've selected the 11th best airport for holiday travel. Houston's Hobby and George Bush Intercontinental rank 26th and 33rd, respectively.
The very best airport for holiday travel? Honolulu International Airport.
