Texas Women for the Arts members gather for an intimate evening of mixing and mingling
On Thursday evening, members and potential members of Texas Women for the Arts gathered at the home of Sherri West for an intimate "mix and mingle" event to learn more about the organization and its initiatives. The organization, a program under the umbrella of the Texas Cultural Trust, unites the financial force of Texas women with funding initiatives for the arts and arts education throughout the state.
The event was hosted by Sheree Frede, Carole Krist, Melody McCaig, Karyn Scott, Mary Herr Tally and Sherri West. Membership Chair Sheree Frede spoke about the organization, shedding light on its cultural mission. During the evening, three featured guests shared the spotlight, each a unique member of the greater arts community.
Featured guest Lisa Russell, owner of the Russell Collection Fine Art Gallery, showcased the work of world-renowned Spanish artist Royo. The Seasons of Royo, is on exhibit through May 31 at the Russell Collection. On Friday and Saturday, May 10 and May 11, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., exclusive artist receptions will be held at the gallery, giving collectors a chance to experience the spectacular collection in the presence of its creator.
Austin-based fashion designer Christi Craven, of Lilly Lorraine, presented pieces from her collection shown at New York Fashion Week. To round out the event, classical guitarist Thales Smith performed for the group. Smith was named a 2008 Texas Young Master.
Texas Women for the Arts holds its annual meeting May 15-16 in Houston.
