East Austin's best-kept secret hits the market for $3.5 million
You can own a piece of weird Austin with this new listing. Sekrit Theater, located at 1145 Perry Rd., is now on the market.
Local artist Beau Reichert, who has owned the 2-acre property for about a decade, slowly turned the space into hangout and event venue for the surrounding East Austin neighborhood. The most iconic facet of the property is, of course, the Sekrit Theater which Reichert built himself, complete with giant screen, projection house, and concession stand.
"I built this place to connect artists with a community and to provide a unique experience where everyone felt welcome," Reichert said in a public statement on Facebook.
However, last year Reichert began struggling with the City of Austin to keep the space up to code. "After a long battle with the city and a few neighbors," he said, "I am finally ready to move on."
The property includes a main house, tiny house, and shotgun house. Design influences range from French Colonial style to New Orleans flair to Austin eclecticism, incorporating reclaimed materials from San Marcos University and old homes in the Ninth Ward.
Other assets include a glass atrium, gorgeous pavilion, outdoor bath and shower, and vintage school bus that doubles as a lounge. With all of these amenities, the opportunities are boundless. The property can be used as a residence, venue, private theater, community center, or even a church. It's priced at a cool $3.5 million.
