Texas Tribune celebrates 2019 festival with glam downtown political party
What: TribFeast 2019
Where: Brazos Hall
The lowdown: After a bombshell week in Washington, D.C., politicos from both sides of the aisle headed to Austin for three days of politics and conversation. As part of Texas Tribune Festival 2019, presidential candidates, politicians, and journalists gathered at Brazos Hall rooftop for TribFeast, an annual fundraiser for nonprofit journalism.
Democratic presidential candidate Amy Klobuchar (this was before the duck story) snapped a photo with Texas Rep. John Bucy and his wife, Molly Bucy. Other guests included MargaretSpellings, former U.S. Secretary of Education, and Antonio Garza, who served as U.S. ambassador to Mexico under President George W. Bush.
The Lone Star State was, of course, well represented with Texas Reps. Gene Wu and Dustin Burrows both in attendance, as well as Travis County DA Margaret Moore.
And, this being a fundraiser for the press, representatives for Texas' top news outlets were at the feast, including Texas Tribune editor Emily Ramshaw, Texas Monthly editor in chief Dan Goodgame, Dallas Morning News publisher Grant Moise, and Buzzfeed editor Ben Smith.
Of course, the weekend would make headlines for other reasons (cough, cough Nancy Pelosi), but for this one evening, TribFeast is a reminder that the promise of food and an open bar can still bring Republicans, Democrats, and journalists together.
