Modern Texas Dressmakers
Texas-born online shop Little Day Dresses serves every woman's everyday dress needs
Lovers of all things pretty and practical, take note. A darling new Texas-based virtual shop called Little Day Dresses launched October 7 to serve all your everyday dress needs. Because every day — even the little ones — deserve a flattering frock.
The venture was founded by Kristen DeRocha and Vesta Garcia, who share a love for well-made clothing and vintage-meets-modern design. Between them they have more than two decades’ worth of experience in sewn product manufacturing and product design.
These two had been making dresses and rocking them around town — DeRocha in Dallas and Garcia in Seattle, where she lived before moving to Austin. Everywhere they went, people would stop and ask what they were wearing. The duo decided it was a sign to start a business.
DeRocha says the name, a twist on little black dress, refers to everything outside of your big days (wedding, job interview). Your little day is, essentially, your every day. And that’s what these girls aim to outfit.
To do that, they use high-quality, small-batch materials sourced in the United States as much as possible. They cut and sew to order right here in Texas and ship directly to the buyer — even internationally.
By cutting out the middle man, they can keep the prices affordable: $90-$150 per dress. And because the materials are sourced in small batches, there are limited quantities of each style, which are designed for year-round wear and serve women of all shapes, in sizes 0-22.
“We are all about flattering women’s bodies,” DeRocha says. “We know that no one is wearing a corset anymore, so we have kept that in mind while we developed those styles.”
Little Day Dresses is unveiling nine dress styles available for pre-order, ranging from the Mod Mini in black and white or chocolate houndstooth to the Morning After Dress in pink geometric or teal paisley print. There will be eight more styles rolling out in about three weeks.
