Where Food and Art Mix
Top chefs and fine art intersect for one scrumptious evening at Art Bites
When you bring some of the best chefs in Austin together with inspirational works of art, you're in for a scrumptious evening. Such was the case at the Russell Collection Fine Art Gallery on Tuesday evening for CultureMap's second annual Art Bites extravaganza.
Chefs from Cafe Josie, Due Forni, El Naranjo, Finn & Porter, Plate by Dzintra, Ramen Tatsu-Ya, Sway, and Swift's Attic gave guests the opportunity to taste art in the form of bites inspired by the gallery's exquisite collection. Chef Takuya Matsumoto of Ramen Tatsu-Ya created a crispy noodle dish based on work by Matt Devine, while a foie gras veloute with oysters and caviar from Chef Peter Maffei of Finn & Porter was inspired by Salvador Dali.
Attendees sipped sensual Old Forester creations from cocktail artists and enjoyed tunes from DJ Phamstar throughout the night. During the event, lucky guests were surprised by giveaways, including a Zink red lambskin clutch and tickets to La Dolce Vita, Wine & Swine and the Austin Food & Wine Festival.
Guests included Samir Patel, Phyllis Fletcher, Bill Pitts, Jose Buitron, Paul Fischer, Joyce Bailey, Justin Jensen, Allison Jensen, Kate Lowery, Lisa O'Neill, Katie Mathew, Dana Tomlin, Katherine Tucker, Darlene Fiske, Justin Sabatini, Carin Perilloux, Cathy Cochran-Lewis, Cynthia Lew, Micah Adams and Charla Adams.
Though we were sad for the evening to end, to-go bites from Kellie's Baking Co. provided the perfect nightcap for a tasty event. Presented by Cadillac, Art Bites benefits the Austin Food and Wine Alliance.
