Marfa Meets Vogue
Hipster-approved Texas campground catches Vogue's eye
Already a favorite of the Austin hip, the El Cosmico in Marfa, Texas has caught the eye of Vogue. Earlier this month, the top fashion magazine selected El Cosmico as one of seven outdoor outings "with just the right touch of luxury."
The Vogue-approved hotel (we use the term lightly) offers a rustic escape in the high-plains desert. Guests stay in teepees, trailers or tents situated under the expansive West Texas sky. Though rustic, the spaces exude effortless charm, thanks to the genius touches of Austin-based hotelier Liz Lambert.
"Set in the biggest little art town in Texas, El Cosmico’s eighteen acres of high-plains desert are dotted with birch-paneled vintage trailers, Sioux tepees, canvas safari tents, and even a yurt — all the vision of Liz Lambert, the woman behind Austin boutique hotels Saint Cecilia and San Jose," writes Vogue.
"Keeping with Marfa’s artsy vibe, there are rotating art installations, sewing classes, and live music (John Doe of the band X played in September)." El Cosmico is also widely known for the Trans Pecos Festival of Music + Love. This fest for wanderlusting music lovers takes place on the expansive property each fall.
To book your rustic respite, visit elcosmico.com. Prices at range from $75 per night for a tent (Sunday through Thursday) to $150 per night for the Imperial Mansion trailer (Sunday through Thursday).
