Summer Fun
The Long Center invites you to dance the night away with Rhythm on Stage
This summer, Ballet Austin and the Long Center are teaming up for the return of Rhythm on Stage, part of the Long Center’s All Summer Long community programming.
Beginning June 11, the community is encouraged to take to the stage on alternating Tuesdays for free nights of dance throughout the summer.
Instructors from Ballet Austin’s Butler Community School will start each evening with a lesson in a different form of dance — from Bollywood to hip hop. Participants will then “dance the night away” with friends and other community members. The fun begins at 7 p.m. and will wrap up around 10 p.m.
The event is free and open to the public, although donations are suggested. The Rhythm on Stage schedule is as follows:
June 11: Brazilian dance, instruction by Rebekah Fowler
June 18: West African, instruction by Jean Claude Lesson
July 9: Broadway (“One” from A Chorus Line), instruction by Vincent Sandoval
July 16: Bollywood, instruction by Prakash Mohandas
August 13: Hip hop, instruction by Shepherd Allen
In addition to Rhythm on Stage, Long Center summer programming includes the continuation of Trailer Food Tuesdays, a Summer Fit Series on the City Terrace, Sound and Cinema, and the Soundtrack Series.
