Never a Dull Moment
Go inside Austin's legendary comedy show for a glimpse at life on stage
Editor's note: CultureMap is proud to present the latest installment in our partnership with KLRU's documentary series Arts in Context. This unique series celebrates stories about the arts in Austin and the people who make this such a vibrant and creative city.
Since 1977, Esther's Follies has been the downtown haven for weekly, contemporary, vaudeville variety shows full of magic, comedy, dance, and more. Back then, Sixth Street was much more sinister after dark. Now 39 years later, the Esther's team continues to meet every Monday to create new acts to be performed that weekend — only four days later. Drawing on the latest headlines for fresh performances full of social satire and political parody, at Esther's Follies there is never a dull moment.
