Austin suburb racks up hundreds of new jobs as booze distribution company moves in
Republic National Distributing Co. is relocating its regional beer, wine, and liquor distribution center from Austin to Pflugerville in a move that will bring more than 300 jobs to the suburb.
The company plans to occupy a 250,000-square-foot building in Pflugerville where it eventually seeks to employ 304 full-time workers. Republic National Distributing is investing $27 million in the new 32-acre facility.
“This fast-growth company brings a sales and distribution regional operation that provides many opportunities to expand our local workforce expertise in a state-of-the-art, high-tech facility,” Amy Madison, executive director of the Pflugerville Community Development Corp., says in a November 12 release.
Republic National Distributing’s Austin-area distribution center currently is at 2101 E. St. Elmo Rd. in Southeast Austin.
“We considered sites in other communities but decided to make our new home in Pflugerville due to several factors, including location and available workforce,” says Steve Feldman, vice president of operations at Republic National Distributing.
Under a 10-year agreement, the City of Pflugerville’s economic development arm will provide $1.2 million worth of incentives to Republic National Distributing, including up to $500,000 for road and utility improvements at the Pflugerville site, as long as the distributor meets certain benchmarks. The distribution center will be just south of East Pecan Street and just west of State Highway 130.
Republic National Distribution is the second largest wholesale distributor of booze in the U.S. and racks up annual sales of more than $10 billion.
