Opt for Optimism
Frost Bank passes out huge doses of optimism at new East Austin mural
A few weeks after a new mural sprung up at 911 E. Cesar Chavez St., CultureMap and Frost Bank popped by to help Austinites celebrate it.
The colorful Opt For Optimism mural by artist Jason Eatherly is another inspirational aspect of Frost Bank's new campaign, which focuses on spreading optimism and generosity in the community. As onlookers posed for pics, CultureMap handed out passes to Love Cycling Studio and tickets to Alamo Drafthouse and Ballet Austin, including a coveted pair of tickets to The Nutcracker.
"Optimism to me means the ability to choose a positive outlook even if that's not the easiest," said one visitor.
"Just believing in yourself," agreed another. "That's pretty much all that optimism is."
One way that Frost Bank gave back during the event was rewarding one visitor with a major gift. Brooke Grabato paused to pose for a pic in front of the mural and used the hashtags #optforoptimism and #sweepstakes, and in turn she won $500 for herself and $500 for a nonprofit of her choice. Inspired by the mural's message, Grabato chose not to keep any of the money and donated all $1,000 to Mobile Loaves & Fishes, which provides food and clothing to the homeless population of Austin.
For the next six months, you can visit the mural and get your own dose of optimism. Be sure to tag it with #optforoptimism on Instagram, Facebook, or Twitter — you never know what good might come from it.
