Austin Psych Fest announces lineup: Brian Jonestown Massacre, Black Lips andDead Meadow come to town
The fifth annual Austin Psych Fest takes place this April 27-29 at the newly opened Emo’s East and Beauty Ballroom. Today, the festival announced the first wave of confirmed bands.
Headliners include the Brian Jonestown Massacre (subjects of iconic rock doc Dig!), (local rockers) The Black Angels, (Georgia partyboys) The Black Lips and Dead Meadow.
The fest also released a Bandcamp mix featuring tracks from some of the announced artists.
Here are a few more bands we’re psyched to see (sorry):
Lotus Plaza
Lotus Plaza’s reverb-soaked songs pair dreamy guitars with luscious, looping vocals; close your eyes and it’s easy to get completely lost in 2009 LP The Floodlight Collective, the first (and only) album released by Deerhunter guitarist Lockett Pundt under this alias.
The Intelligence
Seattle post/pop-punk band The Intelligence flows from folksy and acoustic to loud and full of feedback, always preserving an eclectic, lo-fi element that makes their brand of sometimes-surfy, sometimes-sludgy rock irresistible.
Prince Rama
Formerly of Boston, currently Brooklyn-based band Prince Rama is helmed by sisters Taraka and Nimai Larson, along with friend Michael Collins. The sisters were raised on a Florida Hare Krishna commune, a fascinating fact which might help explain their love of chanting choruses, frenetic, droning guitar lines and lush live shows.
