Day 14
The Band of Heathens: Americana rock born at Austin's beloved Momo's
Name: The Band of Heathens
Featured track: "Should Have Known" featured on CultureMap's Texas Showcase Sampler
Country/City of origin: Austin, Texas
Genre: Rock
In one sentence: "Both [albums] overflow with the sextet's sharply composed Americana, a sound borrowing liberally from Little Feat and the Grateful Dead with a side order of loose-limbed Texas funk." - The Austin Chronicle
Why we chose them: Formed from a weekly songwriter circle at Austin's beloved (now closed) Momo's, The Band of Heathens has been a force on the local Americana scene since 2008. In that time, members have come and gone, but the roots rock sound has lived on, fueled by a passion for live performance. Heathens goes the way of the jam band from time to time, but that's okay — they jam live, loud and real, a true testament to Texas rock.
SXSW official showcase:Tuesday, March 10 at The Parish (Show is free and open to the public, brought to you by the City of Austin)
