Friday Night Films in the Park releases first lineup of classic '80s flicks

Children of the '80s, this is your summer to celebrate. The Alamo Drafthouse is partnering up with the South Shore District to bring some of your favorite films back to the big screen.

Friday Night Films in the Park's "Summer Classics Series" kicks off on May 16. As you sit under the stars, the Drafthouse will be screening quintessential '80s films like Fast Times at Ridgemont High, Meatballsand Dirty Dancing. And while, technically, Meatballs was released in 1979, we'll argue that the Bill Murray classic is a frequent favorite of the generation.

The screenings will be held on the picturesque lakeside lawn in front of the South Shore District Leasing Center, a new East Austin residential and mixed-use development located on the south bank of Lady Bird Lake in East Austin.

The event is free and will feature different Austin food trailers each week. For opening night, The Peached Tortilla and Cool Haus will be rolling up to take care of any Spicoli-esque munchies. This film series will run the last three Fridays of the month.
