ATX Festival: Scott Wolf, Bill Lawrence, Childrens Hospital and more round outthe TV festival’s second wave of programming
Earlier this month ATX Television Festival announced its preliminary schedule and opening night festivities which included programming from USA Network’s Suits and Royal Pains, a Friday Night Lights cast and crew reunion and confirmed attendances by Jason Ritter (Parenthood) and James Lafferty (One Tree Hill).
With the festival just a week away, the second wave of programming has been announced and attendees can be sure to have plenty of informative panels, compelling screenings and exciting special events to choose from.
An Adult Swim themed panel was also announced and will be sure to provide plenty of laughs and memorable moments. The panel will include cast and crew from Childrens Hospital and NTSF:SD:SUV::
On the panel front, festival go-ers can hear from fantasy scribes, Jeff Davis (Teen Wolf), Jane Espenson (Buffy, Once Upon a Time), Ben Edlund (Firefly, Supernatural) and more about prime time’s shift to fantasy-based programming and how the genre has become so profitable today.
Cougar Town co-creator Bill Lawrence and friends will have plenty to talk about during their own panel as well due to recent news regarding Cougar Town’s jump to TBS as well as its new showrunner. Other panelists include Kevin Biegel (co-creator Cougar Town), Ian Gomez (Courgar Town), Brian Van Holt (Cougar Town) and Neil Flynn (Scrubs).
And while USA Network will help open the festival with its two series, TBS is making its name heard as well with its own panel dedicated to the network. Cast and crew from TBS’s newest comedy, Sullivan & Son will be present alongside TBS’s newly acquired Cougar Town cast and crew.
An Adult Swim themed panel was also announced and will be sure to provide plenty of laughs and memorable moments. The panel will include cast and crew from Childrens Hospital and NTSF:SD:SUV::
Other panels also include “Women on Television,” “Stages of a Television Writing Career,” “Actors Roundtable” and “The Creators,” where attendees will get a behind-the-scenes look into the role of TV show runners like Kyle Kileen (Awake, Lone Star), Kevin Biegel (Cougar Town), and Mark Schwahn (One Tree Hill) among others
On the screening side, attendees can look forward to Life Unexpected, True Blood, The Vampire Diaries, Firefly, Grimm/Heavenly, Parenthood and more with cast and/or crew members in attendance for each screening.
In addition to confirmed attendances by many of the cast and crew from Parenthood and Friday Night Lights, it was recently announced that actors Scott Wolf and Judy Greer will also be in attendance. Wolf will be premiering his new animated series, Kaijudo: Rise of the Duel Masters Saturday morning where all will be welcome.
I have to say, I’m most excited for Saturday night’s Friday Night Lights outdoor screenings of the pilot and series finale. The screening will feature music from Friday Night Lights cast members as well as a special premiere of the new Explosions in the Sky music video that will follow afterwards. No badge necessary.

The festival will take place here in Austin during June 1 - 3. All screenings and panels require a badge to gain access. You can purchase badges at the ATX Festival website and view the complete schedule of programming and panels here.
