Exclusive: Big Boi spotted at ABIA, probable appearance at Tuesday's FADER +vitaminwater event
Did you hear that thud? Sir Lucious Left Foot just landed in Austin.
Yep, you heard that right: We spotted Big Boi at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport and can predict with good faith that he is appearing at tonight's Uncapped event, hosted by vitaminwater and FADER. Just last week, a vague "save the date" for Uncapped appeared in Austin inboxes, stating that "anyone can take the stage" and "anything can happen" on August 7.
Big Boi's solo debut Sir Lucious Left Foot: The Son of Chico Dustywas released in July 2010 to bounce and bass enthusiasts' delight, proving him a powerful (better, even?) artist outside of hip hop act OutKast. But, aside from that, how else can we so certain Big Boi be taking the stage tonight?
One: Well, he's here, isn't he? Two: His next album, recently re-titled Vicious Lies and Dangerous Rumors, is due this fall. Three: He's been heavily promoting his collaboration with dreamy, moody Swedish band Little Dragon on social media — and we get the feeling they might be filling tonight's empty date on their tour roster with an Austin appearance, as well.
As part of the hush-hush Uncapped summer concert series, Los Angeles saw The-Dream, Zola Jesus, Rick Ross, Omarion and French Montana take the stage, while Chicago music fans were treated to a special performance by Santigold, Wale and Melanie Fiona. Seattle got Passion Pit and 2Chainz, while Portland saw Kendrick Lamar and Best Coast collaborate onstage.
Looks like tonight Austin will feast its collective eyes and ears upon Big Boi, Little Dragon and perhaps another artist yet to be determined (Update: A-Trak confirmed on twitter he will be at the event). Uncapped hopefuls better get in line soon (only if you RSVP'd, that is); these are the same people that bring the infamously packed FADER Fort to SXSW each year.
Free drinks — mixed with hangover-helper vitaminwater, we'd presume — and a massive show wait just behind those doors...
