Austin Pride announces new dates after Hurricane Harvey postponement
New dates for Austin’s Pride parade and festival — which were postponed due to Hurricane Harvey — have been confirmed.
After conferring with city officials, Pride organizers have set September 30 as the new date for the parade and October 21 as the new date for the festival. The parade will wind through downtown Austin, and the festival will take place at Fiesta Gardens in East Austin.
“Austin is getting two fierce weekends coming up!” Pride organizers said in announcing the new dates.
The parade was supposed to be held August 26 and the festival on August 27. But with a deluge of rain swamping the Austin area that weekend, Pride organizers and city officials decided to delay both events.
Pride officials say tickets purchased for the August 26-27 activities will be honored for the rescheduled events. In addition to beneficiaries that already were chosen, Pride organizers say they’ll donate a portion of the proceeds from the parade and festival to Harvey relief efforts.
