Weekend Guide
Bundle up, get out and enjoy the top events in Austin this weekend
We know it's cold out, but that doesn't mean that things are slowing down this weekend. The next few days are full of can't-miss outings, from our favorite east side art event to the giddiest festival of the year. So bundle up, Austin, and check out the top events of the weekend.
Creek Show — Light Night 2014
Start the weekend early with Waller Creek's Light Night 2014 on Thursday. The highly anticipated one-night-only event features five installations from local architects. Stroll along the creek — between Fifth and Ninth streets — and experience these public works of art, while also visiting Waller Creek-based businesses.
Warby Parker pop-up shop
Need some new specs? Hipster favorite — and affordable online glasses retailer — Warby Parker rolls into The Picnic on Friday. The brand's full optical and sunwear collection will be available — and stylists will be on hand to help with purchases. While you're there, play games like backgammon and peruse a lending library specially curated for Warby Parker by Austin Bat Cave. Warby Parker reps tell us the bus will be at the Picnic for at least the next six months.
Art Night EAST
Kick off your EAST experience with the official preview to the annual tour on Friday night. Hop on a bus with other art lovers and check out various art spaces, performance venues, galleries and studios, including Big Medium, MASS Gallery, grayDUCK and Co-Lab Projects. Bonus: Each space includes food and drinks from the likes of Hillside Farmacy, Launderette, Zardetoo, Austin Beerworks and more. The party continues after the tour at the east side's favorite honky-tonk, the White Horse.
Forever Fest
The giddiest fest of the year returns to Alamo Drafthouse and the Highball this weekend. A weekend-long celebration of girly pop culture, Forever Fest includes film screenings, social parties, workshops and more. The Mean Girls screening is already sold out, but you and your BFFs can still check out The Spring Fling at the Highball on Friday, Danceoke on Saturday, and The Wild Brunch (think "hot dudes and mimosas") on Sunday.
East Austin Studio Tour
It doesn't get more "Austin" than a free, self-guided tour of art spaces on the east side. The East Austin Studio Tour runs this weekend and next — check out our artist's guide to EAST for insider info on the small studios and hidden gems you can't miss.
Rodeo Austin's BBQ Auction and Dance
Cap off the weekend with a Texas twist at Rodeo Austin's annual BBQ Auction and Dance on Saturday at Austin Music Hall. Fill up at the barbecue buffet, then two-step the night away to Dale Watson's signature country sounds.
