Swifties gather at rooftop drive-in for Eras Tour film screenings
A new end-of-summer series at Blue Starlite Drive-In will have Swifties dancing like they're made of starlight. Taylor Swift's highly-anticipated The Eras Tour Concert Film will be screened at the drive-in theater's rooftop location in downtown Austin on several dates beginning Friday, October 13.
For even more added fun, Blue Starlite is partnering with an unnamed local bead shop for the first two weeks of shows, so Swifties can make friendship bracelets while they watch the film. Local artists can also flex their skills with the best Taylor Swift art during the theater's chalk art contest and get a chance to win prizes, including a season pass to the theater and more.
Blue Starlite owner Josh Frank said in a release that since his theater provides an atmosphere that others don't, he couldn't pass up the opportunity to be a part of the iconic Taylor Swift phenomenon.
"We have been experimenting with alternative programing since we opened 14 years ago, so it is exciting to see folks like Taylor Swift seeing the value of creating their own alternative programing and offering it to cinemas outside of the studio system," said Frank. "It’s a model that has been a long time coming, and we are very much in our own way working on bigger versions of our alternative content distribution to help the Blue [Starlite] grow and prosper into the future, and other art house and indie theaters as well.”
Only 35 cars are permitted per screening, which provides a much more intimate viewing experience. Blue Starlite also provides an immersive headphone option for attendees that would like to enjoy the films from outside their cars, or dance along.
