Be Refined
Creative new coworking and event space coming to downtown Austin
Downtown Austin is getting a new coworking space. Billed as "Austin's first shared creative studio and event venue," The Refinery is slated to open this October at 612 Brazos St.
Founder Hayley Swindell is motivated by the belief that creative people work better together.
"With my first solo business, The Hip Humanitarian, an online and subscription retailer, I severely lacked the community and network to truly help my business succeed. That's when I had the idea for The Refinery," says Swindell in a release. "By creating a multi-purpose space, we're bringing in a diverse group of business that will no doubt thrive when working side-by-side."
The coworking portion offers three tiers of memberships: private studios (rates vary), dedicated desks ($450 per month), and flexible seating ($350 per month). The Refinery will have space for seven studios, 22 desks, and seating for 100 people.
With any membership comes access to a long list of amenities, including a photography studio, product fulfillment station, and juice and coffee bar, in addition to the usual office perks. As an added bonus, a shared retail space will showcase goods made by Refinery members.
Swindell is planning to host regular workshops, dinners, and markets, some of which will be open to the public. In addition to in-house programming, the venue will also be available for private rentals — anything from concerts to weddings.
The coworking and event space will be housed in an immaculately designed, 8500-square-foot building. The look will be executed by Michael Hsu Architecture and Claire Zinnecker Designs.
