East Austin Upgrade
East Austin's newest development promises to maximize prime location
Another day, another development. Construction is expected to begin soon on Cityline at MLK Station, a new transit-oriented development that will add convenient retail and living space to a bustling East Austin corridor.
The 4-acre project will be located on the northeast corner of East Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Alexander Avenue, just a short distance from Capital Metro's Red Line commuter rail. In fact, Cityline's proximity to the MetroRail station, as well as bike lanes and bus routes, is a key component of the project.
The location "offers convenient, multi-modal access to Austin’s central business district and its amenities," says a release. "It is minutes from downtown, Mueller, the Austin-Bergstrom International Airport, and more."
“The property will offer a connected, collaborative, and creative office environment with local retail stores and newly developed housing options that will appeal to a wide cross section of users,” says Frank Gordon, principal of Cityline Companies, LLC.
There will be 134,000 square feet of office space, 11,000 square feet of retail, and 22 townhomes, all of which should be available at the end of 2017. Amenities for office tenants include free outdoor Wi-Fi, dog-friendly office space, onsite bicycle storage, showers, and more.
Transportation continues to be a major concern for Austin residents, and developers are responding. A similar transformation is occurring just south of Cityline, where Endeavor Real Estate Group is redeveloping Plaza Saltillo into a "mixed-use, mixed mobility community."
