John Mueller re-emerges on the scene with John Mueller Meat Co., butcher shop included
After a rather dramatic ousting from JMueller BBQ in October, John Mueller re-enters the scene with "the biggest backyard barbecue in Austin," to be known as John Mueller Meat Co.
Mueller unarguably spent a few years at the top of the culinary game, but each victory in his career (a visit from Anthony Bourdain; recipient of various critical awards) seemed to be accompanied by a personal tumble of sorts (alleged substance abuse problems).
However, if anyone is interested in really good barbecue, it's doubtful they will remain caught up in Mueller's personal story for too long.
His brick and mortar outpost will open on the ever-growing East Side on February 20, featuring a butcher shop and artisan grocery in addition to the requisite barbecue pits, picnic tables and outdoor speakers.
"I first came to Austin and set up on the East Side," he said in a press release. "It made sense to go back."
Though Mueller declined to comment on past ventures, the official press release surprisingly made light of his now well-known temper by noting, "fans can still expect to encounter Mueller's trademark crotchety band of 'customer service'. . . Some things never change."
Let's hope there's at least one change — that this venture stands the test of time. We're more than ready to get our hands messy with some ribs.
