Cocktails Get Political
Popular Austin bar gets political with hilarious election-themed cocktails
Ahead of this year's much-hyped Super Tuesday, the Townsend is serving up a crafty batch of election-themed cocktails. On Monday night, Austinites can drink away their political concerns with adult beverages inspired by presidential candidates.
The hilarious cocktails and their tongue-in-cheek descriptions were concocted by Justin Elliot, The Townsend's resident mixologist.
Among the most notable? There's the Trump, "a Manhattan made with Canadian whiskey because if he wins we're moving to Vancouver." The Bernie features "a can of Lone Star and a shot of Fernet but the bartender gets to drink the shot." The Ted Cruz, which is "the same as Marco Rubio's daiquiri but somehow a lot less likeable," caps it off.
No matter your political leaning, we can all agree that The Townsend's innovative bar program would make a great economic platform. Guest bartenders receive royalties for each drink a patron orders.
The humorous menu — only available on Monday, February 29 — coincides with Trump vs. Bernie: Clash of the Titans at the Paramount Theatre. This comedy show features Anthony Atamanuik and James Adomian playing the candidates in a pretend political debate that rivals the intensity of the 2016 primaries.
