Lucy's Fried Chicken unveils big plans for new lakefront location
Lucy's Fried Chicken is determined to satisfy chicken cravings all across the city. Chef/owner James Holmes tells CultureMap that Lucy's will be opening a new Lake Travis location later this year.
"Lucy's is such funky fun — it represents Austin so well. I hope that it well be well-received [on Lake Travis], which I think it will," Holmes says. "The same funky people live out there that live in here."
The new Lake Travis location will have a lake-view bar, a playground, and a stand-alone event area.
The popular fried chicken joint will be taking over the old Iguana Grill space at 2900 RM 620. "I always drank mini-margaritas at the Iguana Grill," he says. Holmes, who's friends with the owners of the now-shuttered grill, had been dreaming of opening a Lucy's at the spot. "Everything just sort of fell into place," he explains.
At the new location, Holmes hopes to create a little oasis for Austinites looking to get out of the city. In addition to an outdoor oyster shucking station — giving the hot spot a true waterside vibe — the new Lake Travis location will have a lake-view bar, a playground, and a stand-alone event area.
All of the new space means a larger kitchen — and a larger menu. Holmes says the team plans to expand staple items and brunch, as well as toy with lighter fare and gluten-free dishes.
Holmes is shooting for a fall opening date, but what he's really excited for is summer at Lucy's Lake Travis locale.
"I know it sounds corny, but in the summers, I'm looking forward to people being on the lake all day, coming up in their swimsuits, sunburnt, just chowing down on some chicken and drinking beers."
