Opening Alert
Anticipated restaurant from top chef opens in bustling Austin neighborhood

Something new is cooking on Burnet Road. Bonhomie, the anticipated restaurant from notable Austin chef Philip Speer, opens Thursday, March 23.
The name, a French word that loosely translates to "cheerfulness," reflects the restaurant's French bistro/American diner aesthetic. A menu has not been revealed, but dishes that have appeared on social media include banana split profiteroles and a brisket croissant with pho jus dip. The American, French, and Asian influences are a fitting representation of Speer's background with Hai Hospitality.
During his tenure at Uchi, Uchiko, and the now shuttered St. Philip, Speer was known for crafting innovative and creative dishes. He has also been a James Beard semifinalist in the Outstanding Pastry Chef category for multiple years.
The chef also just opened the My Name is Joe coffee trailer downtown alongside William Ball, owner of Garage Cocktail Bar, and will participate in the upcoming Austin Food & Wine Festival and new Hot Luck fest. Additionally, his wife, noted pastry chef Callie Speer, is opening a new restaurant called Bombshell this year.
Look for Bonhomie on the ground floor of the Amli development at 5350 Burnet Rd. Hours are Monday through Thursday, 11:30 am to 10 pm; Friday, 11 am to 11 pm; Saturday, 10 am to 11 pm; and Sunday, 10 am to 10 pm.
