Popular Austin sandwich shop gets second chance as new food truck

Great news for sammie fans: Republic of Sandwich, which shuttered in December 2016, reopens as Capitol Sandwich food truck on Thursday, March 30. The new spot will be located at 2308 Hancock Dr. in the Pat's Games parking lot, the same intersection as the original shop.
Thomas Gardner and Pete O'Donnell opened the cozy deli in North Central Austin at the corner of Hancock Drive and North Loop Boulevard in 2014. When the shop closed and the duo parted ways, the eatery teased something new for the future: "We have some exciting opportunities to pursue and will keep you posted on what's next."
Just like the original, the new food truck touts artisan meats and sides. Regulars at Republic will notice some of the same offerings, such as The Jive Turkey and the Big Bad Wolf. The rest of the lineup includes classic 8-inch hoagies, like a club and a Reuben. Egg sandwiches and tacos will be available on a weekend breakfast menu.
Capitol Sandwich's hours are Thursday and Friday, 10 am to 3 pm, and Saturday and Sunday, 8 am to 3 pm. The food truck also delivers through Uber Eats.
If you're wondering what happened to the old Republic space, Poke-Poke moved in earlier this year.
