Trader Joe's finally opens location in downtown Austin
After much anticipation (seriously, we've been waiting since 2013), Trader Joe's downtown location will open on Friday, May 1 at 8 am.
The grocery store — known for reasonable prices, quality food and ridiculously delicious cookie butter — opens in the Seaholm development near Cesar Chavez Street and Lamar Boulevard. Trader Joe's is the first retail business to open in the renovated space.
At 11,500 square feet, the Seaholm storefront is the smallest of Trader Joe's three Austin locations. It will, however, be a formidable opponent to the Whole Foods Market flagship store, which is located within walking distance.
Joe Mackey, co-founder and co-CEO of Whole Foods Market, once called Trader Joe's a "vigorous" competitor. In fact, the California-based grocery chain has beat our hometown hero as America's favorite supermarket for two years in a row.
Whether you're a Trader Joe's fan or a diehard Whole Foods loyalist, we can all rejoice in the fact that there is one more place in Austin where we can buy a jar (or seven) of Speculoos Cookie Butter.
