The Austin Chronicle has revealed the winners of the 2012 Restaurant Poll today, where critics and readers voted for their favorite Austin restaurants in various categories.
The results signified a dramatic change in Austin’s food culture as new and upcoming restaurants took the crown away from some of Austin’s oldest staples.
For example, voters ended The Salt Lick’s 7-year Best Barbecue streak by crowning Franklin Barbeque as the victor this year. Best Hamburger was awarded to Hop Doddy, beating out Hut’s Hamburgers and P. Terry's.
Still, other restaurants were able to hold on to their crown for another year: Best Taco was awarded to Torchy’s Taco for the fourth year in a row.
Meanwhile, critics voted in more specific categories: Contigo as the “Best Place to Celebrate Anything with All Your Friends,” and Sweet Ritual as the “Best Way to Treat Yo Self.”
Austin’s top five favorite restaurants as voted by readers are:
1.Uchi
2.La Condesa
3.Uchiko
4.Contigo
5.Moonshine Patio Bar & Grill.
