New 'legendary' Tex-Mex restaurant opens in South Austin

A South Austin Tex-Mex takeover is now complete. DK Maria's Legendary Tex-Mex opened to the public May 26, in the former Tres Amigos Restaurant & Cantina space on Slaughter Lane.
The owners of Tres Amigos sold the restaurant to the dual husband-and-wife team of Mike and DK Reynolds and Bruce and Mary Evans earlier this year.
Bruce is a current partner at Cooper's Old Time Pit Bar-B-Que, and Mike is a former managing partner of now-closed Kenichi. The new concept, named for their wives, DK and Mary, takes inspiration from both sides of the border.
The menu includes Tex-Mex staples — enchiladas, tacos, and tamales — as well as specialties like grilled quail. A full bar program, complete with margaritas, complements the food lineup.
The space, designed by by Tonya Noble Moore from Noble Designs, retains the friendly atmosphere of Tres Amigos, with vibrant colors and neon signs. DK Maria's offers 200 indoor/outdoor seats and a private dining area, The Flag Room, which can accommodate 65 people.
Look for DK Maria's at 1807 W. Slaughter Ln. Hours are Sunday through Thursday, 11 am to 10 pm, and Friday and Saturday, 11 am to 11 pm.
The Tres Amigos outpost on Highway 290, which has different owners, remains open, according to a representative at that location.
