Dining Update
Shuttered Austin restaurant gets second chance at surprising new location
A beloved South Austin restaurant is back in business. A new location of Opal Divine's soft opened June 8 at the Best Western Plus Austin City Hotel, located at the intersection of I-35 and Oltorf Street.
Opal Divine's Austin Grill is serving the homegrown chain's trademark lineup of approachable cuisine, whiskey, and craft beer. Diners can look forward to burgers, sandwiches, bar snacks, weekend brunch, and daily specials.
The new location is the reincarnation of Opal Divine's Penn Field outpost, which closed on December 31 after 12 years of service. It took over the restaurant space on the Best Western property that formerly housed Blue Moon Bar & Grill.
Penn Field was the third Opal Divine's location to shutter. "Austin's 'Keep Austin Weird' fascination is fading into a search for the latest and greatest new restaurant/bar/concept and [co-owners Michael and Susan Parker] feel it is time to let this location pass on," the team said at the time.
In 2013, the original location closed after 13 years on West Sixth Street, and the outpost at Davenport Village shuttered in 2015. The former is now home to Steampunk Saloon. Opal Divine's Marina location on North Mopac remains open.
Opal Divine's Austin Grill is located at 2200 S. I-35. Hours are Sunday through Thursday, 11 am to 11 pm; Friday, 11 am to midnight; and Saturday, 11 am to 1 am.
