East Austin kolache shop pours out opening date for anticipated new brewhouse
Since opening in August 2017, Batch Craft Beer & Kolaches has been as committed to craft suds as it has to Czech pastries. Beginning November 8, owners Noah and Josh Lit are taking their beer business one step further with the anticipated debut of Batch Brewhouse at 3218 Manor Rd.
The facility will be open to the public for short tours upon request, but it will not house a taproom, as CultureMap previously reported. Instead, the existing bakeshop will showcase the brews on tap while also featuring a few curated selections from other local brands.
Head brewer John Snyder and Heath Shuford, who spearheads the IPA program, will carve a unique space in the Austin beer world with approachable styles like table beers and IPAs joining more experimental brews. The facility is divided into two sections to keep the clean brewing area separate from the funky barrel room.
The initial release will include six draft beers, showcasing the operation’s full range. Among the highlights are Galaxies Collide, an ale fermented with Cabernet Sauvignon, lavender, hibiscus, and rose hips; strawberry farmhouse ale Sjöfen; and B.Y.N., a dry-hopped table beer fermented with pineapple .
In addition, one bottled beer will also be stock in Batch Kolache’s retail section. The gluten-free Urwagwa is made with African bananas and wild yeast.
"We are honored and thrilled to add our little brewhouse to the amazing beer scene here in Central Texas,” says Noah Lit via release. “John and Heath are brewing the kinds of beers we love to drink, and we are so excited to share them with everyone."
The brewhouse isn’t the only exciting development at the facility. The release also teased that a new food truck from the Micklethwait Craft Meats team would soon park on the property. Details will be announced at a later date, but here’s hoping for a revival of the much-missed sandwich trailer Romanouskas Delicatessen.
Even with that concept still on the horizon, the grand opening weekend, November 8-10, will be a can’t-miss occasion. The Batch team has a full slate of fun planned with kolache specials, live music on November 8, and “The Comedy Batch with Robert Segovia” stand-up show on November 9.
