Topa, SXSW
Basque restaurant in Austin readies the wine and rum for SXSW events

Kalimotxo will host several delicious events for "SXSBasque" March 14-16.
At this point in "South by Southwest season," Austinites may be overwhelmed with music and event options. But we're also aware that hopping from show to show and panel to panel is hungry business. Kalimotxo, East Sixth Street's Basque restaurant and cocktail bar, is hosting some pop-up events and even a collaboration with fellow Spanish restaurant El Raval.
Here's what's on the menu for SXSBasque, running from March 14-16:
Bacardí Late Night Party, March 14
SXSBasque starts out March 14 with a late-night Bacardí-fueled party from 9 pm to midnight. Expect a DJ, delicious pintxos (bite-sized snacks, traditionally from Spain's Basque region), several reverse happy hour specials, and of course, lots of Bacardí rum. Guests will also have the opportunity to enter a raffle for a chance to win a weekend staycation, including a two-night stay at Arrive Austin and a dinner for two at both Kalimotxo and its sister restaurant Canje. Tickets for this event are available on Eventbrite.
El Raval x Kalimotxo Collaboration, March 15
Kalimotxo Chef de Cuisine Ben Savage will join forces with Chef Laila Bazahm of El Raval for an exclusive à la carte menu collaboration bringing Austinites some traditional flavors of the Basque and Catalan regions. Reservations for this all-day event are available on Resy.
Porrón Zone, March 16
From 2-5 PM on March 16, the Porrón Zone will take over Kalimotxo for an afternoon celebrating Basque drinking culture. During this event, guests can experience drinking from a porrón — a traditional Spanish wine pitcher that can be poured straight into the mouth — as well as artisanal pintxo boards, happy hour specials, and live DJ tunes in the background. Guests can RSVP for this event on Eventbrite.
Kalimotxo is located at 1813 E. 6th St.
