Treasured vegan restaurant Counter Culture reopens as food trailer in Central Austin
Vegan Austinites has gotten one of their most treasured eateries back. 2022 CultureMap Tastemaker winner Counter Culture has reopened as a food trailer in the back patio of Tweedy’s Bar in Central Austin.
The new trailer will serve all of their classic appetizers, vegan bowls, burritos, sandwiches, and more every day of the week. They still offer takeout and delivery.
Owner Susan Davis has been operating her vegan business since 2009. The restaurant had permanently closed its brick and mortar location on East Cesar Chavez at the end of December 2022 after being in the space for over a decade. The closure came due to rising cost of living concerns, and rising food and production costs.
"Through those years, my staff and I have made many fond memories [and] personal connections with you, our valued customers," Davis said in a social media post detailing the restaurant's closure. "Without your support we never would have made it this far. So, a sincere [and] heartfelt thank you — to all of you — for this amazing experience of a lifetime! Thanks to everyone that came weekly, monthly and sometimes daily!"
Counter Culture's new food trailer can be found at 2908 Fruth St., open weekdays from 5-10 pm; Saturday and Sunday noon to 10 pm.
