The Anti-Defamation League of Austin was hoping to attract young professionals with an "edgy" and "engaging" fundraiser Thursday night. Their efforts appear to have worked. The event raised $13,000 and brought a crowd of about 200 people out to support the non-profit which fights anti-Semitism and all forms of bigotry.
The fundraiser, called "True Colors: Celebrating Shades of Diversity with Art," was held at the eclectic east Austin home of Dylan Robertson and Annie Cobb.
Along with enjoying artwork on display, guests were asked to participate in an art project that required them to take a photograph holding a message they wanted to spread to the world. People's messages of love and diversity were shown on a big screen throughout the night and will soon live on ADL's Facebook page.
ADL Austin Community Director Karen Gross said the money raised from the party will go toward the non-profit's efforts to promote equality including their anti-bias and anti-bullying programs.
"It was inspiring for me to reaffirm that thinking outside the box and trying new approaches pays off."
