Upscale hospitality chain unveils plans for third Austin hotel in 3 years
Over the past two years, upscale hotel chain Cambria has announced plans for locations on Rainey Street and the Domain. On December 18, the Rockville, Maryland-based company revealed it's adding a third location, this one in Southeastern Austin.
The new 127-room hotel will be located at 7800 E. Ben White Blvd. in Montopolis, just two miles from Austin-Bergstrom International Airport entrance. According to a news release, it should be open in 2021, along with the Domain's location of Cambria.
Part of mega hospitality group Choice Hotels International, Inc., Cambria specializes in "locally inspired, contemporary design," a phrase that's quickly become how big corporations explain their hipper, millennial-targeting brands.
"Cambria hotels are designed for today's time-starved travelers looking for moments to connect to people and places through modern conveniences," the company says in a release.
Stripping away adjectives like "immersive," which is literally how they describe the bathroom, the hotel's modern conveniences sound a lot like standard amenities. The new Ben White Boulevard hotel includes:
- rooms with with modern fixtures, lighting, and bedding
- bathrooms with Bluetooth mirrors
- food, local craft beer, wine, cocktails, and small bites
- meeting spaces
- fitness centers
- a pool
Counting the three hotels in Austin, the brand has six locations in Texas and 10 more in the works. Currently, Cambria has 50 hotels across the U.S. and 80 more in the works. Choice Hotels, which counts Sleep Inn, Rodeway Inn and Clarion among its portfolio, has more than 7,000 locations worldwide.
"As we close out a record year in which we opened 11 Cambria hotels — together representing 1,700 upscale rooms — these new franchise agreements are a sign that Choice will continue to bring the Cambria brand to even more top markets around the country," said Janis Cannon, senior vice president, upscale brands, Choice Hotels. "We've listened closely to our guests as the brand has grown, which is why we offer hotels in prime locations near corporate businesses and city attractions as well as upscale amenities that allow them to maximize their time on the road."
In addition to its third Austin location, Cambria also announced today it was opening a location in Niagara Falls. That 120-room hotel is scheduled to open in 2022.
