SIMS Heart of the City jams out for musicians' mental health services in Austin
The Scottish Rite Theater turned into a space of soul and solidarity on Saturday, February 15 when the SIMS Foundation put on the Heart of the City: A Celebration of Soul concert. Listening to such legendary acts as BobbyPatterson, Nakia, DanielJamesLeopold and TamecaJones and watching the impressive moves of the Huston-Tillotson RamNites Step Dance Team, attendees not only got a great show, they got to support a great cause.
Heart of the City shines a spotlight on the SIMS Foundation and the mental health services the organization has been providing since the mid-1990s. Named for Sims Ellison, an Austin musician who lost his battle with depression in 1995, the Foundation connects struggling members of the Austin music community with the affordable mental health care they need.
The event was lead by chairs Noel Bridges and Will Bridges andcommittee members including Darlene Starr, AngelaSalas, Sam Elkin, Ramona Cruz-Peters and AmandaGarcia.
Among the attendees who came out in support were TriciaBridges, Oscar and VeronicaLeal, Dr. Ann Riopel and Audrey Baxter​, all of whom dined, sipped, danced and raffled the night away for a very a good cause.
