The sights and sounds of Austin's first-ever X Games
The X Games wrapped up on Sunday, June 8 with the BMX park competitions, SUPER Trucks finals and both women and men's skateboard street finals. (The Moto X demo was canceled due to wind).
But it wasn't just extreme sports taking center stage, the Circuit of the Americas also played host to musical acts including beloved locals like legend-in-the-making Gary Clark Jr., singer/songwriter Emily Wolfe and My Jerusalem.
Sunday also saw the X Games: Battle of the Bands. Over 200 bands from around the world entered for the chance to take the stage, with only eight finalists chosen to perform. The contest was eventually narrowed down to SUPER bob and Austin's own Vinyl Dharma. Sadly, the locals were beat by Washington, D.C.-based SUPER bob, who took home the $25,000 prize.
At dusk, as the X Games came to a close, The Flaming Lips took to the Austin 360 Amphitheater stage for a colorful performance filled with feathers and fun. Towards the end of their set, Flaming Lips lead singer Wayne Coyne threw a metallic "Fuck yeah X Games" balloon into the crowd, marking an extreme end to one extreme weekend.
