Pizza Party
Austinites tell stories about pizza in film screening and variety hour
Via 313 will sponsor this pizza-themed community event.
Austin pizza-lovers can celebrate the famous food in unexpected ways, with a whole slate of films, poetry, music, and more. The Stories About Pizza showcase, sponsored by Austin-based pizza chain Via 313, will toss up all this and more at AFS Cinema on Thursday, June 18.
The showcase is curated by Color Arc Productions, a nonprofit focused on "diverse stories through theatre, film, and music," according to its social media. This is its fourth annual storytelling showcase. Last year's theme was "stories about unique jobs."
This year's slate is anchored by the Color Arc short film Pizza My Heart, which is available to watch on the PBS app. The 11-minute film connects a singing pizza delivery worker and a heartbroken 12-year-old, who commiserate together through song.
Submissions are open now for original solo works that are up to 60 seconds in length. They'll be presented in a "Pizza Pieces" speed round after the film screening. Suggested categories include "poetry, flash fiction, true tales, comedy, music, beatboxing, [and] dance," but Color Arc emphasizes that any type of idea is welcome.
Submissions will close April 20 or as soon as 100 ideas have been collected. Artists must be at least 18 years old and based in Central Texas. Acts have a high chance of being selected, since organizers are aiming for 30-50 pieces. Performers will receive a Via 313 gift card.
Tickets ($20) will be available at colorarcproductions.com. Doors open at 7:15 pm and opening remarks start at 7:30. The show will end at 9:30 pm. AFS Cinema is located at 6259 Middle Fiskville Rd.
