Texas Film Awards
Texas Film Awards honor Alamo Drafthouse founders, Noah Hawley, and more

Awards season is in full swing, and as always Austin’s film scene is keeping step. Hosted by Richard Linklater’s Austin Film Society (AFS), the Texas Film Awards will celebrate 25 years this spring on Thursday, March 6, 2025. A special induction ceremony into the Texas Film Hall of Fame will take place at Austin’s Distribution Hall, honoring legends and rising stars of cinema and television.
This year’s inductees include actor Michelle Rodriguez; Emmy-winning producer, director, and screenwriter Noah Hawley (Fargo); and Alamo Drafthouse founders Tim and Karrie League. Musician JaRon Marshall of the Grammy Award-winning band Black Pumas will provide the evening’s musical entertainment.
Born in San Antonio, Rodriguez made her first film appearance in Girlfight, for which she won the Independent Spirit Award and Gotham Award for Best Debut Performance. She went on to star in the Fast & Furious franchise, Lost, Avatar, and opposite Chris Pine in the recent film adaptation of Dungeons & Dragons, which premiered at South by Southwest in 2023.
Rodriguez has collaborated three times with Texas filmmaker Robert Rodriguez (Alita: Battle Angel, Machete Kills, Machete), who will attend the ceremony to present her the award.

Actor and producer Elijah Wood will also attend the event to present the award to Tim and Karrie League, celebrating their impact on the independent film industry within Texas and beyond. In 1997, the Leagues founded Austin’s Alamo Drafthouse Cinema, which grew to include dozens of theaters nationwide. They are also the co-founders of Fantastic Fest, the largest genre film festival in the country, which takes place annually in Austin.
Noah Hawley’s more than 20-year writing career has included work as a novelist, screenwriter, series creator, showrunner, and director. He is the best-selling author of six published novels and began his television career as a writer and producer on Bones in 2005. He currently serves as executive producer, writer, showrunner, and director of FX’s Fargo, and upcoming projects Legion and Alien: Earth — each produced by Hawley’s Austin-based 26 Keys Productions.
