The luck of the Irish be with ye: Where to celebrate St. Patrick's Day
Hey, y'all, are you wearing something green?
Don't look now but we're already well into March. And despite the hullabaloo happening downtown, it's also the day to celebrate our favorite Irish Catholic saint driving a gaggle of gartner snakes out of the Emerald Isles by drinking our weight in Guinness. (That's, like, two glasses of Guinness, right?)
To get your eyes on your own pot of gold, here's a few of the best St. Paddy's Day parties happening around town.
Starting at 7am, Fado Irish Pub will be kicking off Paddython 2012 on West Fourth Street. Beat all the hungover SXSWers with a great Irish breakfast, special guests and lots of giveaways. Throughout the day, the street will explode with Irish dance and music from Traveler, Sean Orr Band, Think Lizzy, Emerald Exiles, and Silver Thistle Pipes & Drums. The earlier you get there, the more Celtic celebration you'll get to enjoy.
The Dog & Duck Pub transforms their Guadalupe Street parking lot into a free St. Patrick's Day concert party stage. Beginning at 11:30, you can enjoy drink specials on all your favorite green beers and Irish whiskeys (and other drinks too). Enjoy the sounds of the Capitol City Highlanders, Black Irish, Rosie Flores, John D. Graham, Lil' Cap'n Travis and Ian McLagan & the Bump Band.
Finally, the Celtic Cultural Center of Texas invites the entire family to Cover 3 for their annual St. Patrick's Day Festival. Rain or shine, these passionate Irish lads and lasses are going to blast you with the best parts of their culture. Here's your chance to catch the most heavily accented and scantily kilted Isles-o-philes playing the bagpipes and telling popular Irish tales. Authentic musicians, traditional dancers and plenty of food and drink will get the whole family in the spirit.
If you can't make it to any of these rowdy music parties, there is plenty of fun and Guiness to be had at B. D. Riley's, Bull McCabe's, J. Black's Feel Good Lounge and all three of the Opal Divine's. Order the corned beef and cabbage and plenty of soda bread to soak up the beer.
I sure hope you've got on something green in case those pesky St. Patrick-o-philes come at ya with their mean little pinchin' fingers. May the luck of the Irish be with you (as you try to find parking downtown) this weekend!
