It seems difficult to top last weekend's delicious, indulgent Ice Cream Festival at Fiesta Gardens, with its promise of smile-inducing frozen treats for FREE.

But what can possibly top ice cream? Sprinkles! Candy! Accessories!

While visions of mix-ins dance in your head, this weekend is the kickoff for the upcoming ensemble and accessory fest, Austin Fashion Week. The whole sparkly affair takes to the runway with its expected flair on Friday nigh at the Shift Into Style kickoff event at the Bob Bullock Texas State History Museum.

This fancy benefit event features the first runway fashion show of the week, live entertainment, gourmet delights and, of course, plenty of eye candy. The event is a partnership with the Circuit of the Americas as well, and fashion designer Ross Bennett will reveal his outfits for the Circuit of the America's' Girls to be worn at the Formula 1 Grand Prix in November.

Saturday afternoon, the Paramount presents their Youth Theatre Company's latest creation, a performance ethnography of the meaning of "work" in the lives of our city's citizens. In a special work-study program through the City of Austin, these 25 teens were hired by the Paramount to learn the meaning of hard work while also learning from the individuals they interviewed. Together, they have constructed a multi-dimensional ensemble piece that will change the way you look at your own work and its effect on your life.

Uncle Billy's out on Lake Travis will be hosting a special concert Saturday evening by the lovely Texas blues legend, Miss Lavelle White. After a brief stint out of state, White is back and raring to perform again in the city that has benefited from her smoky, soulful voice for close to five decades. With proceeds to benefit the nonprofit HOME (which helps musicians to find affordable housing), this is one concert you don't want to miss out on.

For a completely different musical event, head downtown to Red 7 on Saturday evening for the special live performances that are a part of The Drive Tour. With songs pulled directly from the infinitely listenable 80s synth soundtrack from the Ryan Gosling vehicle, Drive, you can relive the best part of that ultra-violent film (if you don't count Mr. "Hey Girl" himself). Soundtrack artists Anoraak, College and Electric Youth will all perform live.

Meanwhile, over at the Continental Club, another favorite annual event for music lovers kicks off at 7:30 pm. The Buck Owens Birthday Bash (more commonly called "The Buck Bash" to regulars) is a yearly tradition of gathering 30 or more Texas musicians to sing the collection of #1 hits from the legendary country singer, who left behind a legacy of goodwill and great music. The event, which always draws a unique blend of Austinites, benefits the Center for Child Protection.

Finally, an exciting ongoing theatrical production opens this weekend at Salvage Vanguard Theatre. Fup Duck is the latest new work from the award-winning puppetry/live theatre company, Glass Half Full, which finished their production with significant grants from the Jim Henson Foundation and the Creative Fund. This adaptation of an old Southern morality tale is presented with tabletop puppetry that will excite that kid-like part of you that loves the juxtaposition of wise, silly animal puppets and ornery old man puppets that say swear words. This one is going to be unlike anything else you'll see this year.

So there you have it. Plenty of musical, theatrical and artsy options to appeal to every type of art-loving Austinite.
