Austin's funniest festival adds surprise headliner to stacked 2016 lineup
Austin's premier comedy festival, Moontower Comedy & Oddity Fest, has revealed a surprising new headlining addition to the 2016 lineup.
Saturday Night Live alum Maya Rudolph and singer-songwriter Gretchen Lieberum join the already stacked bill of stand-up, sketch comedy, improv, and musical comedy acts at this year's festival. Rudolph and Lieberum will perform as Princess, a Prince cover band. The Purple Rain-obsessed duo headlines alongside previously announced stars David Cross, Martin Short, Maria Bamford, Kevin Smith, and Anjelah Johnson.
Now in its fifth year, the festival continues its tradition of crafting a unique lineup of veterans and rising talent. Other additions to the 2016 bill include national acts Jessica Williams, Phoebe Robinson, Big Jay Oakerson, and Dan Soder as well as local favorites Matt Bearden, Chris Cubas, Martha Kelly, Maggie Maye, Mac Blake, and Danny Palumbo.
A bonus with Moontower is that comedy fans aren't locked into purchasing a weekend pass to enjoy the fest. You can purchase individual tickets to a show that catches your eye — perhaps the exclusive taping of David Cross' special "Making America Great Again."
Moontower runs April 20 to 23, with shows taking place at Paramount Theatre and seven other clubs around town. Passes for Moontower, which range from $129-$599, are available now. Individual tickets to headlining acts will go on sale on Thursday at 10 am.
