Legendary Elton John to close out Formula 1 weekend in Austin with epic show
Formula 1 just got much more exciting for music fans. On Monday, Circuit of the Americas announced that rock legend Elton John and His Band will close out the 2015 United States Grand Prix in Austin on Sunday, October 25.
After the final race, Formula 1 attendees will be treated to a two-hour set from Sir Elton. The set promises to feature "all of the iconic hits and classic album tracks spanning Elton's incredible five-decade career." Joining John on stage will be Nigel Olsson on drums, musical director Davey Johnstone on guitar, Matt Bissonette on bass, John Mahon on percussion, and Kim Bullard on keyboards.
"Our goal is to create a must-attend weekend this fall in Austin, Texas, by fusing music and art with local and international sport into Austin's energetic nightlife," says Jason Dial, president and CEO of Circuit of the Americas. In addition to John's performance, Fan Fest will return to downtown Austin this year.
The much-anticipated performance will take place on COTA's new festival lawn. Formula 1 fans — and Elton John fanatics — can snag tickets to the once-in-a-lifetime show now. Sunday-only tickets are $99; three-day tickets (October 23-25) start at $169.
