New Film in Town
What are they filming? New indie movie crew is popping up at these Austin locales
A new independent film kicked off production in Austin last week and filming is set to continue through September.
The Big Spoon, which was funded by a wildly successful Kickstarter campaign earlier this year, is the brain child of two University of Texas at Austin grads. Austin-based actress Mallory Culbert, who co-wrote the film, will star alongside Happy Endings' Zach Knighton and Isabelle McNally, who you might recognize from indie darling Frances Ha as well as her stint on season two of House of Cards. In addition to its creators, the film also boasts an entirely Austin-based crew.
So where can you expect to find them filming over the next few weeks? The Big Spoon crew tells CultureMap that they have plans to shoot at east side locales including Vintage Heart and Uncorked, as well as St. Stephen's School, Austin-Bergstrom International Airport and Ramsey Park, among others.
The Big Spoon tells the story of two very different women in two very different relationships as they navigate the end of their 20s. Billed as "an unromantic comedy," the film is about "love, commitment and — most importantly — female friendship."
