ACL Fest Surprise
Austin City Limits Music Festival expands to surprising new destination
ACL Music Festival is finally growing outside of the Austin city limits. In a surprise announcement on Wednesday afternoon, producers of Austin City Limits Music Festival revealed that a new version of the music celebration will take place in New Zealand in 2016.
The first-ever Auckland City Limits Music Festival is slated for Saturday, March 19. C3 Presents and Live Nation Entertainment are teaming up with Auckland's CRS Presents to infuse the Austin experience with Auckland flair.
"We want to produce a live music and festival experience that is memorable and spectacular, that expands the format into what we know people want from a music festival nowadays, and that is created and curated solely and specifically for Auckland," said CRS Presents partner Campbell Smith in a press release.
The one-day fest will feature 40 musical artists as well as traditional ACL attractions like great food, a vendor market, and a children's area. In addition, Auckland City Limits will provide a unique forum for "speaking on and exchanging cultural and innovative ideas."
"After successfully working with CRS during Big Day Out New Zealand, we know that they share our core values and can deliver a new event based on the local history, pride, and community that has made ACL what it is today. New Zealand offers an incredibly rich musical and cultural foundation to deliver a world-class festival that Auckland can be proud of," said C3 Presents partner Charlie Walker. In addition to ACL Fest, C3 Presents is also the driving force behind Lollapalooza and its sister festivals in Berlin, Chile, Brazil, and Colombia.
The complete lineup for Auckland City Limits Music Festival has not yet been announced. Organizers promise that more information will come in early October. To stay in the know, sign up for the ACL (Auckland City Limits) newsletter.
