Two-time Academy Award winner, Bosom Buddies star, and all-around national treasure Tom Hanks now has another accomplishment under his belt: published writer. And lucky for us, the renowned actor will be bringing his new short story collection, Uncommon Type: Some Stories, to the 2017 Texas Book Festival.

The book features 17 stories thematically linked by different models of typewriters, reportedly Hank’s favorite collectible (he even created an app with Hitcents — Hanx Writer — that mimics the look and feel of the manual machines). The collection came about after Alfred A. Knopf editor-in-chief Sonny Mehta noticed Hank’s moon exploration tale, "Alan Bean Plus Four," in The New Yorker. Hank began the collection in 2015, writing when free time allowed.

At the Texas Book Festival, Hanks will be chat with Lawrence Wright, Austinite and Pulitzer Prize winner for The Looming Tower: Al-Qaeda and the Road to 9/11.

Tickets for the November 4 event at First Baptist Church are now available and include a pre-signed copy of the book. Fans who can’t make it to Austin are encouraged to go to one of Alamo Drafthouse’s live streams of the talk at theaters across the country.
