Red River rock: Four shows to choose from tonight
- Bob Log III
- OBN III
- Big D and the Kid's Table
- Lower Class Brats
With Fun Fun Fun Fest only two weeks away, maybe it’s about time to start flexing those festival muscles with some loud, fuzzy rock (and maybe just a little bit of beer-spillage). Good news: tonight’s definitely your night, with four excellent lineups vying for your attention—and they’re all within walking distance of each other along Red River.
Tonight, Mohawk, Beerland, Red 7 and Emo’s all offer rock shows at various spots along the punk-to-garagepunk scale (it’s a short one, folks): choose from locals OBN III’s or Lower Class Brats, or Boston’s Big D, or the oft-costumed Bob Log III. Or if you’re really brave? Try to make more than one show—it’ll be just like rushing from stage to stage to catch your favorites during Fun Fun!
Here are a few live clips to help you decide on the perfect Saturday night lineup:
This one man band sounds subdued recorded but brings a live show so bluesy (and fun to watch, too) that you’ll forget it’s just a slide guitar and a drumbeat.
Recently returned from this year’s GonerFest, the OBN III’s lineup includes members of Bad Sports, Strange Boys and A Giant Dog.
Big D and the Kid’s Table at Emo’s
Starting out as a ska band (and featuring a roster of past and present members that reads like a who’s who of the mid-90s Boston scene), Big D still backs their rooted-in-punk sound with a horn section.
An Austin punk staple since 1995, Lower Class Brats have toured the world, released over a dozen EPs, a live album and a DVD—don’t miss seeing them live at equally legendary Red 7.
