One of Austin's leading Latin nightclubs is wrapping up its longtime tenure off Sixth Street. Cielo Nightclub, which first opened in 2009, will close Saturday July 19.
"It's with a heavy heart that we announce after 16 years of showcasing the best in Latin music and culture, we will be closing our doors after this weekend," the club announced in a post on Instagram. Although its posts are often in Spanish, all the messages about closing have been primarily in English.
Commenters reminisced about visiting the club in its early days and their youth, many of them claiming it as their first club. That kind of clientele can't last forever, but is always being replaced on Sixth Street. It is unclear from the post why the club is closing, but it does hint at a return or evolution: "When one chapter closes, a new one begins! Stay tuned to what's coming next[.]"
There will be "one last puro pinche party" on the club's closing night. Three DJs will share the honors of playing Cielo out: DJ Yei B, DJ Carcamo, and DJ Fuzion. A post detailing the party encourages guests to text (512) 994-9887 to reserve a section.
"Thank you for being a part of the Cielo family and for all of the love and support over the years. Without a doubt, your patronage supported our long journey, allowing Cielo to be a fabric of Austin's Latin community," said the post announcing the closing. "The memories generated are endless, and so is our gratitude for your loyalty and support. All good things come to an end eventually, but WHAT A RIDE IT HAS BEEN!!! Gracias a todos! Te amo[.]"
Cielo Nightclub is located at 505 Neches St. Hours are 9 pm to 2 am.
