Sun June to play The Parish, plus more Austin music picks for late November
We know you likely have a lot to do in and around Thanksgiving, but here’s a bunch of local shows you should go to instead. Or bring visiting friends and family for some extra local flavor. Have fun out there.
Single Lash at Central Presbyterian Church – Friday, November 17
Single Lash’s recently released album, Ladida, is excellent, and you should consider watching the goth-leaning act perform it from front to back at Central Presbyterian Church this Friday, November 17. Felt Out and DJ Adult Themes round out the bill for what should be an impeccable evening. Tickets are $25.
Slomo Drags at Hotel Vegas – Friday, November 17
Slomo Drags will put out “Tesla” — their fantastic new single — this Friday, November 17, and then the release show for it will be later that same night at Hotel Vegas. Openers for the power pop act include Billy Glitter, Rusty Dusty, and Lola Tried. Tickets for this loaded gig are just $10.
Sun June at The Parish – Saturday, November 18
If you’ve been eagerly waiting to experience Sun June’s very good new album, Bad Dream Jaguar, in a live setting, then your time has come; The self-described regret pop act will play at The Parish this Saturday, November 18. Runnner and Dyan are also on the lineup. Tickets are $20.
Psychedelic Medicine at The Far Out Lounge – Saturday, November 18
The third ever Psychedelic Medicine is set to happen at The Far Out Lounge this Saturday, November 18. The event will feature Daydream Twins, Swimming With Bears, San Gabriel, NOLO, Dream 2 Dream, and Megafauna. Proceeds from it will benefit Texans For Greater Mental Health, which aims to increase advocacy and research for psychedelic therapy. Tickets are $10 in advance, $15 the day of.
Dale Watson at Continental Club – Thursday, November 23
Whether you need to get away from your family or you’d just like something fun to do on Turkey Day, you should make your way to the Continental Club for Dale Watson & His Lone Stars’ Thanksgiving Show & Dance. Tickets to see the country music maverick will be $15 at the door.
Alex Maas at The 13th Floor – Saturday, November 25
You can normally find Alex Maas fronting The Black Angels, but he also has some noteworthy solo material. To check some of it out, get yourself to The 13th Floor on Saturday, November 25. The lineup for the evening also features Mello Meddo, Up Around The Sun, and Little Mazarn. Tickets are $15.11.
