Summer Fashion
Maxi dresses, white jeans & chunky wedges are on the covet list
I keep an ongoing note in my iPhone entitled "I Want," and thanks to the sun and rising temperatures, that list is momentarily quite specific. (Sometimes it says things like "better clothes," and "nicer family.")
For the time being, it covers my summer shopping list — everything from the perfect boho bag to a bright summer watch. Here are my top five summer must-haves:
White jeans
There is nothing crisper looking and more chic than a pair of white boot-cut jeans. (Cropped are cute too, if you're like 5-foot-10, but if that's the case, go be tall elsewhere and leave us who have to de-stumpify in peace.)
Unfortunately, I've learned the hard way that you can't just buy a cut you like from a brand you trust in white and expect your ass to look as good. Do some sale shopping online. J Brand and Citizens both have good finds.
Maxi dress
When the goal is to look effortless, but not casual, enter the maxi dress. Perfect for capturing a bohemian look when paired with generous bangles, gladiator sandals and long, messy hair (on purpose or otherwise), the maxi dress is also ideal for large meals. Anthropologie's got loads.
Cross-body bag
It's not necessarily summer-specific, but the cross-body bag is something I've been wanting to add to my closet for months. It seems especially at home at music festivals.
If you tend toward buxom, aim for a wider strap to avoid creating a continental boob divide.
Hugemongous wedges
Nothing about summer sandals should be strappy — save that for your bikini. Summer shoes are all about chunk and clunk. You can show off detailing with a short little sun dress, or wear under jeans for height and relative comfort that pumps just can't provide.
I'm into what Seychelles is workin' with right now.
Summer watch
Take advantage of the next three months, because it might be the only time that a white watch is not only acceptable, but encouraged. Michael Kors has quite the cute selection — just make sure your teeth are bleached to match.
